The national coordination group for nature information (Lukki) consists of 17 different member organizations, whose purpose is to jointly develop the production, use and sharing of nature information produced in Finland. The background for establishing the group is the fact that the information base for example in monitoring biodiversity and ecosystem services is somewhat inadequate. Information gaps need to be filled to make the necessary political decisions to stop biodiversity loss. Existing information is not currently used as effectively as possible, partly because the needs of information producers and users do not always align.

The goal of the Lukki group is to initiate the national development program for nature information. The purpose of the program is to create a centralized model for managing national nature information, to strengthen and develop it through thematic entities: 1) habitat and species monitoring, 2) information interoperability, 3) research and the adoption and application of new methods, and 4) the use of nature information. The proposal for the national development program was completed at the end of 2023.
